OUR STORY: In 2015, Luis (Coach Lou) Herrera came up with the idea to reopen a program that his wife closed in 2010. That program, known as the 1City Youth Project, served more than 3000 young people in New York City for over 20 years. Coach Lou began planning for this program that he named SoulPhamm. In 2020, he decided that he would open the program on his birthday on June 25, 2021, but he passed away suddenly on January 23rd that year. His wife, Dr. Herrera ("Mz. Doc"), incorporated SoulPhamm as a nonprofit on his birthday and now leads the program in his memory.
Based in Newark but drawing participants from NJ and NYC, SoulPhamm serves youth ages 5-25 and the 2024-2025 menu of programs includes: Basketball, Cheerleading/Stomp & Shake, Drumline, Hip-Hop Majorette Dance, Sorority, STEM Club and Student Council. Our season runs from September to June. #DasWassup

As a new organization, we have not yet received any substantial funds and rely heavily on our volunteers (for in-kind services) and the generosity of the general public to keep us open. A donation of $1.00 brings us one dollar closer to meeting our monthly operations and ensures that we can keep our programs open and accessible to any young person who wants to join.

Please let us know which club you would like your donation to go to (basketball, cheerleading, drumline, majorettes, STEM, or student council. Otherwise, we will just credit the donation to "general operations". We wouldn't be mad if you donated more than one dollar! If you'd like to mail a check, please make it payable to SOULPHAMM INC., and mail it to 7000 Hadley Road, Suite 1177, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Please note that this is our mailing address - please do not physically bring a check to this location.

Support a Child's Participation
Some of our kids come from homes that cannot afford to have their children participate in non-essential activities. Your support of $10 per month can finance a child's participation for the season and remove this burden from a family. You can also elect to help a student with their uniform costs ($100-$300 per season depending on the team). Please email info@soulphamm.org for more information.
